On Wednesday, September 26, 2018 the departments of Luzerne County’s Human Services proudly present Luzerne County Cares – Community Expo 2018.

These departments include: Mental Health – Developmental Services Program, Drug & Alcohol, Children & Youth, Area Agency on Aging,  & Veterans Affairs.

The Event will take place at The Woodlands Inn & Resort, 1073 Highway 315, Wilkes-Barre, PA

Doors open and Registration begins at 1:00pm

Programming will continue through 9:00pm

This Expo is FREE to all who wish to attend. 

 

Keynote Speakers will be:

Darryl Strawberry (Former MLB Baseball Star)

Though Darryl was extremely successful in his career, his personal life was plagued with addictions, abuse, divorces, cancer, jail-time and other issues.

Today, Darryl’s purpose and passion is serving the community by speaking a message of hope and helping others transform their lives through the power of hope & recovery.

Darryl Strawberry is described as a legend by many who have been dazzled by the dynamics of his game, the power he possessed at the plate and the story of redemption that continue to bring hope to so many lives. He has earned the legendary nicknames and phrases of one of the most feared homerun hitters in the game of baseball, Straw’s Sweet Swing, Strawberry’s Field Forever and The Legendary Straw Man!

Sam Webb

Sam is well known in Australia for his appearance on Australian Survivor. After joining the reality show, Sam appeared in Network Tens long running drama series, Neighbors. A graduate of Sydney’s drama school, Screen-wise, Sam has also received credit for his work in the feature film documentary, Suicide: The Ripple Effect which premiered in LA, in March 2018. Sam has also received credit for his presenting work on TV.

Sam has received notable recognition for his work in co-founding the mental health organization and charity, LIVIN after the death of his good friend to suicide. The core of their mission is to break the stigma around mental health through merchandise, events and programs that run in schools and workplaces around Australia.

Luke Foster

For more than 8 years, Luke served as a psychologist in the Australian Regular Army, attaining the rank of Major.  During his military career, he provided counseling to a range of people in the Australian Defense Force, covering diverse mental health issues and degrees of complexity, with an interest in the treatment of stress, anxiety, depression, phobias and trauma.  Luke has extensive operational experience and has deployed to East Timor, the Solomon Islands and Afghanistan on multiple occasions.

Luke now spends his time consulting to the mental health charity, LIVIN, which consists of regular speaking engagements and the provision of mental health advice.  Luke has recently established a training organization, ChekMate, that focuses on the delivery of no fuss practical mental health and wellbeing training to businesses all around Australia.

Like is a diehard Australian Rules Football supporter; don’t get him started on Essendon Football Club.

The Expo will have a ample Training Workshops available on a variety of subjects including a feature presentation by James Dill who will be presenting on the Dark Web. 

The Expo will also host a Poster Session where we will showcase many programs & services available within Luzerne County. A growing list of posters that will be available:

Free Dinner including an outdoor BBQ will be served.  Games and attractions for the whole family.

Awards and Door Prizes will be given away

Everyone who registers online will receive an extra ticket for a door prize drawing.  Registration is encouraged by September 21, 2018 (but not necessary).

 

 

The 2018 System of Care Awards – the event will also host an awards ceremony.
